music ministry

Greetings, and welcome to the Music Ministry page!

Our ministry exists to magnify the Lord Jesus Christ and encourage His church through music. We're looking for men, women, boys and girls who are interested in using their musical gifts to build up God's church. Are you a singer? A hand bell ringer? Do you play guitar or a keyboard instrument? You can help us accomplish our mission!

We are so excited about being part of what God is doing here at Salem, and we would love for you to join us! To get involved, or to get more information about the music ministry, please contact me at  I can also be reached by texting 804 867 7374.

God bless!

Careen Stanley
Music Minister, Salem Baptist Church

Bells of Salem:

Our ringers are guys and gals of all ages (high school - senior adult) and we meet in the sanctuary Wednesday nights from 6:15-7 p.m. We play special music in service as often as possible and would love to add you to our team! We're off for the summer, but our director is Mrs. Becky Broaddus ( and she'd love to hear from you!

Middle School Girls' Ensemble:

We are looking for 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls who love to sing to start a new ensemble!  Don't worry! No audition is required, and we will start slowly, learning to sing in unison and working on getting comfortable on stage using microphones. We'll grow in our skills and confidence together, and who knows what God will do? We plan to begin Fall of 2022, and you can contact Mrs. Stanley to get more information or to sign up.

Salem Kids' Choir:

This high-energy group of kiddos K-5th grades loves to sing and play claves and chimes and praise the Lord together! We just wrapped up our spring session, and plan to begin the fall season after Labor Day. We would absolutely love to have your child(ren) join us! Rehearsal times have not been set yet, but we usually meet either Wednesday or Thursday afternoons, before church dinner and Trail Life/American Heritage Girls.  Contact Careen Stanley for more information, or to register your child!

We’re always looking for instrumentalists! If you play a solo instrument and would like to contribute to the music ministry either in regular services or for a special occasion, please contact Careen.

Ladies’ Ensemble:

This group of ladies of all ages (high school-senior adult) is constantly forming and reforming, singing several times a year in Salem's worship service and on special occasions. Invitations go out after each season to new or returning singers. Our fall season will contbegin after Labor Day in September.  Singers should be able to hold a part, but not alone.  Rehearsals are Wednesday afternoons, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the choir room in the Fellowship Hall.  Contact Careen for more information!

Praise Band

Our band leads worship every 2-3 weeks, and we’re always looking to add more folks to the team. Rhythm guitar, electric guitar, drums, vocals - if Salem is your church and you have the skills, don't wait any longer! Vocalists must audition and should be able to hold a part (melody or harmony). Instrumentalists are welcome to play along with the band from the front row until ready to hit the stage.

Praise Team:

This is a group of vocalists who lead worship with the band or with CD accompaniment in different combinations.  Some have been singing together for years, some are newer to the team, but all are God-followers who are living a lifestyle of worship. They are strong singers who are working hard to improve their skills so they can lead our congregation in authentic worship. If you're a confident, flexible singer with a love for contemporary worship music (think Elevation, Phil Wickham, Vertical Worship, Matthew West, Maverick City, Chris Tomlin) we need you!  Not quite ready to audition yet? Contact Careen and schedule a Sunday to lead worship with her as a duet or trio. It’s a low-anxiety way to work your way into the music ministry!

Worship Choir:

We just restarted our worship choir and the next session will begin in the fall. Contact Careen for more information - we'd love to see you in September!
