music ministry

Greetings, and welcome to the Music Ministry page!

Our ministry exists to magnify the Lord Jesus Christ and encourage His church through music. We're looking for men, women, boys and girls who are interested in using their musical gifts to build up God's church. Are you a singer? A hand bell ringer? Do you play guitar or a keyboard instrument? You can help us accomplish our mission!

We are busy planning a relaunch this September/October, and we're excited about what God is doing here at Salem!

If you would like to get involved in, or need more information about the music ministry, please contact me at vacareen@va.metrocast.net.  I can also be reached by texting 804 867 7374.

God bless!

Careen Stanley
Music Minister, Salem Baptist Church

Bells of Salem

Our ringers are guys and gals of all ages (high school - senior adult) and we meet in the sanctuary Wednesday nights from 6:15-7 p.m. We play special music in service as often as possible, and would love to add you to the team! Our director is Mrs. Becky Broaddus (rebecca@bealenet.com) and you can contact her for more information.

CrossHope Girls’ Ensemble: This high school vocal group has been singing together for four years now, and we're leading worship once a month, as well as preparing specials throughout the year. We’re working on 3-part harmony skills, using good singing techniques and excellent diction, all for the glory of God. Interested students must audition, and should be able to hold a part – but not alone. If you’d like to join the group, Please contact Careen Stanley to make an appointment.

Middle School Girls' Ensemble:

A new ensemble is being formed this fall at Salem! Our target members are 6th-8th graders, and no experience or audition is required. Rehearsal options are Wednesdays 3:45-4:30 p.m. or Thursdays 5:30-6:15 p.m. If you're a student who likes to sing (or if you're the parent of a student who likes to sing), please contact Careen ASAP at 804 867 7374 to register and place your vote for Wednesday or Thursday rehearsals. When there are at least four names on the list, we will begin!

Salem Kids' Choir:

This high-energy group of kiddos K-5th grades will get back together starting October 7th! Rehearsals are Thursdays  4:15-5:15 in the fellowship hall. We'll sing a lot, maybe dance some, practice rhythms with our claves, and even learn to play the chimes! Performance goals will be one song for Sunday church in November, and one song for Advent (Sunday, Dec. 5).  Contact Careen ASAP to register your child!

     Rehearsal dates:  October 7, 14, 21, 28/November 4, 11, 18/December 2

Instrumentalists: We’re always looking for instrumentalists! If you play a solo instrument and would like to contribute to the music ministry either in regular services or for a special occasion, please contact Careen.

Ladies’ Ensemble: This group of ladies of all ages (high school-senior) is constantly forming and reforming, singing several times a year in Salem's worship service and on special occasions. Invitations go out after each season to new or returning singers. Our fall season will begin Wednesday, September 15. If you would like to join us, please contact Careen ASAP.  All singers should be able to hold a part, but not alone.  Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings, 7:15-8 p.m. in the choir room in the Fellowship Hall.

Praise Band: The band leads worship every 2-3 weeks, and we’re always ready to add more folks to the team. Rhythm guitar, electric guitar, drums, vocals - if Salem is your church and you have the skills, don't wait any longer! Vocalists must audition and should be able to hold a part (melody or harmony). Instrumentalists are welcome to play along with the band from the front row until ready to hit the stage.

Praise Team

This is a group of vocalists who lead worship using CD accompaniment on alternate weeks and in different combinations.  Some have been singing together for years, some are newer to the team, but all are God-followers who are learning how to worship as a lifestyle. They are strong singers who are working hard to improve their skills so they can lead our congregation in authentic worship. If you're a confident, flexible singer with a love for contemporary worship music (think Elevation, Phil Wickham, Vertical Worship, Matthew West, We the Kingdom, Chris Tomlin) we need you!  Not quite ready to audition yet? Contact Careen and schedule a Sunday to lead worship with her as a duo or trio. It’s a low-anxiety way to work your way into the music ministry!
