Cultivating a Passion for Christ

AWANA:  The name AWANA stands for “Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed”, from  2 Timothy 2:15 – “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word of Truth.”

Awana presents an opportunity for each child to grow in self-worth as well as in his/her relationship with Christ and others.   Awana offers multiple curricula levels from toddlers to junior high-school.  Awana is split into five age groups: Puggles (2 and 3 yr olds), Cubbies (3 through 5 yr olds or “the 2 years prior to Kindergarten”), Sparks (Kindergarten, Grade 1 & 2), Truth & Training (T&T) (for grades 3 & 4), Club 56 (for grades 5 & 6).

Salem’s AWANA club meets on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:00pm (September through May).

VBS:  Vacation Bible School is held each and every summer at Salem Baptist during one week in July. It is a wonderful opportunity for 4 year olds to children who just finished 6th grade to learn about God’s love through songs, bible stories, crafts, and worship. In the past, we have utilized Lifeway’s VBS curriculum to help children come to know Jesus Christ. We’ve had 165 kids and 80 volunteers worshiping and having fun during this amazing week. For questions or more information, see Shelly Beale or Kristen Beale.

Mission Friends:  Mission Friends is open to all children ages 3-5. We meet at least twice a month during early service (following the Children’s Story) to learn about serving Jesus through missions at home and around the world. Children learn about current missionaries through stories, crafts, games, and snacks. We have lots of fun sharing Jesus with our little ones!

GA’s:  Girls in Action is a missions organization for girls in grades 1 – 6.  In this organization, girls learn what missionaries do, pray for missionaries and their work, discover how they can help other people, save and give money to help tell others about Jesus, learn about people around the world and of course, have fun with friends!  Our GA group meets each Sunday during the 8:30am service (following the Children’s Story) and also the first Sunday of every month from 11:00am – 2:00pm in the Old Fellowship Hall.  For questions, see Linda Durrett.
